The story broke today of packages containing “explosive material” intercepted on route from suspected Al Qaeda affiliates in Yemen to Jewish “places of worship” in Chicago. This sparked a renewed vigilance in anti-terrorist security at airports and sensitive locations around the world. Here’s Obama updating the American people on his response so far: (the video will play after a short ad from the news source)
I’ve got to say, Obama is sounding more like Bush than ever before… now that he’s been forced to deal with the real world of evil terrorism and hateful, determined Islamic regimes. Anyway, I thought this was worth posting as well: President George W. Bush on September 11, 2001. Kind of sounds like Obama is taking a page from Bush’s book: “We will not waiver in our resolve to defeat Al Qaeda.”
These videos remind me that students of Bible prophecy, of history and of the times in which we live, should continue to be informed and watchful as events develop in the Middle East, in the “War with Terror,” and in Africa. Two out-of-date articles on my website should serve to give a snapshot of how things have changed since 2001 and also how some things haven’t changed very much:

Of particular interest to me these days is the rapidly deteriorating situation in several African countries. Al Qaeda has managed to destabilize and even to just about overthrow the governments of Mauritania, Niger, Mali, Somalia and, soon, perhaps Yemen. From the National Post:
Al-Qaeda is poised to overrun five states in North Africa and the Middle East, creating terrorist safe havens from which the network can launch attacks on the West, Europe and America have been warned.
Mauritania, Mali and Niger have seen a steady escalation of al-Qaeda activity targeting Westerners. Somalia, to their east, has disintegrated in the face of Islamist assault. In Yemen, across the Red Sea from Somalia, security forces have been waging a losing battle against resurgent jihadist armies that have claimed the lives of dozens of troops.

I think I need to take a closer look at the relevant Bible passages, mentioned in the two articles above, and try and discern if current events help me to understand more than I did in 2001. I’d appreciate your comments.
